“People underestimate how important forestry is to our country,” says Mechanical Project Engineer Justin. “There’s a ton of people involved, a ton of work involved.” He adds that many people’s perception of the industry is just cutting down trees and then cutting them down some more for lumber. Justin is one of the many dedicated professionals working in an industry committed to sustainable practices. Balance is important, both in sustainability and in one’s workday. Justin starts his mornings dealing with projects before transitioning into the field and supervising his construction crews. “Having a balance of office and field work is very important to me, and I feel that I get that here,” adds Justin. “There are a variety of shifts at the mill. I work four ten-hour days so I get three-day weekends every weekend.”
