Work Wild, a program within the Alberta Forest Products Association, reaches out to people who are making one of the most important choices in their lives — finding a career they love! We are looking for an engaging, people orientated individual to join our Work Wild team in the role of Southern Alberta Forestry Educator.

Job Title: Southern Alberta Forestry Educator

Location: Calgary or another community within southern Alberta. Alternate locations within the region may be considered based on the successful candidate.

Job Type: Full Time Remote / Hybrid. This position is supported through a 4-year grant, with potential for continuation.

Job Purpose: Reporting to the Program Manager, the Forestry Educator implements Work Wild program objectives, which include educating Albertans on forest sector practices as well as career opportunities in Alberta’s Forest industry. The Forestry Educator will spend much of their time traveling to communities throughout southern Alberta and engaging junior or senior high school students, educators, and job seekers about the variety of rewarding opportunities in Alberta's forest sector.

Duties:

  • Travel, in-person to Alberta communties to educate students and job seekers abour careers and practices in Alberta's forest sector by: 
    • exhibiting at career fairs,
    • delivering presentations, and
    • planning field trips.
  • Engage and online audience by creating, updating, and editing web and social media content, including: 
    • job postings,
    • newsletters, and
    • social media.
  • Develop forestry lessons based on current Alberta curriculum.
  • Deliver engaging, differentiated instruction across multiple grade levels and skill levels.
  • Assist with reporting and collection of engagement data across educational programs.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Education, Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, Indigenous Relations, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience with youth and public speaking.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Highly organized; able to juggle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Familiarity with Canva and Adobe Indesign considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently, often in remote areas.
  • Valid class 5 Driver’s License.
