Job Overview

Boreal Horticultural Services is seeking applications for a Reclamation Silviculturist to

independently manage full-lifecycle reforestation projects!

Boreal Horticultural Services is a well-established team that specializes in silvicultural

reclamation projects for industrial disturbances across Western Canada, offering seed

collection, stock production, seedling establishment, reclamation consultation, and site

monitoring services. Their clients include prominent members of the environmental, oil and gas,

and mining industries reclaiming disturbances of forest land.

Position Overview

The Reclamation Silviculturist is a key member of a small team who will independently

manage full reforestation projects for our valued clients. This role requires the utilization of

silvicultural and reforestation expertise, a leadership mindset with a deep understanding of

legislation, and proven field experience.

This full-time position is created through company growth and will be based in Bonnyville,

Alberta, operating out of the Bonnyville Forest Nursery office, with travel to remote client field

sites throughout Western Canada during the active field season.

Responsibilities

Primary duties will vary by season and span the entire project lifecycle, including:

● Prescription & Compliance: Reviewing site conditions and legislation to develop

comprehensive, site-specific prescriptions to establish free-to-grow reclamation on

reclaimed disturbances.

● Operational Coordination: Overseeing and coordinating nursery stock production and

schedules to ensure readiness aligns with field delivery timelines.

● On-Site Fieldwork: Spending active time in the field to coordinate logistics, supervise

subcontractors, and perform direct quality assurance monitoring.

● Project Oversight: Managing end-to-end project timelines, resources, and technical

oversight independently.

● Client Communication & Reporting: Maintaining responsive, technical client

communication and progress reporting through all stages of the project.

● Post-Planting Assessment: Conducting field-based monitoring of reforestation stock

on reclamation sites.

● Administration: Project administration and other duties as assigned.

Competencies and Experience

● Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Forestry or a related Natural Resource

Management discipline (must be registered or eligible for professional designation,).

● Experience: 3–5 years of field-based experience in silviculture or forestry, with thorough

knowledge of Western Canadian forestry regulations, legislation, and reclamation

criteria.

● Demonstrated ability to independently manage a project from initial assessment through

to field execution and final monitoring.

● Strong self-reliance and leadership qualities, with the ability to supervise subcontractors

and manage moving parts in the field.

● Proven experience in seed/vegetative material collection, nursery stock production, and

post-planting monitoring.
