Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers as necessary
- Ensure continuous safety and efficient operation of the Woodroom department
- Train and mentor the Woodroom team members through their tech progressions and other training as required
- Development of standard department procedures, policies and safety hazard assessments
- Prepare and conduct monthly safety meetings
- Responsible for team member shift scheduling including but not limited to; work assignments / rotations, team member vacations, overtime assignments, back-up for absent team members and shift rotations
- Use performance management tools to ensure team members are consistently demonstrating a high level of performance in accordance with set standards
- Supervise, coordinate, and direct team members to conduct routine field checks on all equipment
- Take action according to procedure to address equipment abnormalities that may affect production
- Use performance management tools to ensure team members are consistently demonstrating a high level of performance in accordance with set standards
- Manage all activities in the log handling storage areas
- Oversee, plan, and schedule maintenance of the Woodroom equipment
- Additional duties as required
Qualifications and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent is required
- Post-secondary education in a relevant trade or field will be considered an asset
- Five or more years experience in a heavy duty equipment operator role will be considered an asset
- Five or more years experience in a Sawmill or Chipping environment is preferred
- Must have experience in operating HMI system (including a clear understanding of the operation of the DCS for the Woodroom)
- Demonstrated relationship management skills including the ability to establish and maintain a high level of trust and confidence within a team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong technical skills and operational ability as demonstrated through competency and department interaction
- Proven safety conscious individual.
- Must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Office, Google Suite of Applications and a computerized maintenance management system, specifically Avantis
