Roles & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers as necessary
  • Ensure continuous safety and efficient operation of the Woodroom department
  • Train and mentor the Woodroom team members through their tech progressions and other training as required
  • Development of standard department procedures, policies and safety hazard assessments
  • Prepare and conduct monthly safety meetings
  • Responsible for team member shift scheduling including but not limited to; work assignments / rotations, team member vacations, overtime assignments, back-up for absent team members and shift rotations
  • Use performance management tools to ensure team members are consistently demonstrating a high level of performance in accordance with set standards
  • Supervise, coordinate, and direct team members to conduct routine field checks on all equipment
  • Take action according to procedure to address equipment abnormalities that may affect production
  • Use performance management tools to ensure team members are consistently demonstrating a high level of performance in accordance with set standards
  • Manage all activities in the log handling storage areas
  • Oversee, plan, and schedule maintenance of the Woodroom equipment
  • Additional duties as required

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant trade or field will be considered an asset
  • Five or more years experience in a heavy duty equipment operator role will be considered an asset
  • Five or more years experience in a Sawmill or Chipping environment is preferred
  • Must have experience in operating HMI system (including a clear understanding of the operation of the DCS for the Woodroom)
  • Demonstrated relationship management skills including the ability to establish and maintain a high level of trust and confidence within a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong technical skills and operational ability as demonstrated through competency and department interaction
  • Proven safety conscious individual.
  • Must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Office, Google Suite of Applications and a computerized maintenance management system, specifically Avantis
