THE GOOD OL’ DAYS

Back when I was a kid, after my 250km long uphill walk home from school in 182 feet deep snow, I would flip on the good ol’ YTV and watch some afternoon mindless television shows. These shows included Power Rangers, possibly the X-Men cartoon, and of course Samurai Pizza Cats.

YTV AFTER SCHOOL

If you were lucky, and the shows that were playing were just a hair shorter than the normal 23 minutes + 7 minutes of commercials, YTV would play the song and video for the Log Driver’s Waltz. The log driver was made out to be the pure essence of manliness. Not only was he a tough, bearded outdoorsman, but he was also nimble and agile from walking on logs all day. This made him a deadly dancer and the desire of all the ladies. Log driver’s waltz can please girls COMPLETELY… Similar to my hero Spandy Andy (who will be on So You Think You Can Dance again tonight by the way).

I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to walk on a log that’s not moving, but it’s not easy. It’s generally hard to balance on things that are not flat. Can you imagine balancing on roundish objects that roll? I’ve tried log rolling, and if I stayed on the log for more than 10 seconds I would be absolutely AMAZED. Log rollers are kind of my past day heroes.

THE CONTEST

In honor of these heritage heroes, we are having a contest. If you have any music/video making skill at all I am asking you to send me a cover of the Log Driver’s Waltz song (audio and video submissions are acceptable). The best entries will be put up on the website and voted on with the winner getting fame and fortune beyond comprehension (and maybe even the sweetest prize ever). Your song will be played to every young person I talk to in Alberta and will be featured at some huge on campus events in September. There may even be some live performances if you’re up for it. Please discuss your form of entry with crollins@albertaforestproducts.ca

Let’s make it happen…
