We are seeking six (6) full-time, permanent Technicians within our Fibre & Wood Department.  Our Woodroom Technicians are responsible for ensuring a consistent flow of high quality fibre is maintained to the organization.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate positive safety behaviors in the Road to Zero journey
  • Operates heavy-duty equipment needed to unload trucks and deck wood including retrieving wood to feed the woodroom
  • Operate Woodroom de-barker, chipper and HMI system as required
  • Wash and grease machinery at the end of every shift
  • Assist with managing fibre and hog quality
  • Assist with training contractors in the job role and function of all Woodroom equipment: chipper, debarker equipment and log yard equipment and operation
  • Responsible for updating policies and procedures pertaining to the Woodroom and log yard operation area
  • Responsible for worksite inspections and entering work requests in Avantis
  • Preparing and chairing safety meeting
  • Responsible for completing equipment lockouts and safety permits
  • Ensure that the automated chip sampling system is collecting samples
  • Additional duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Completed High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Safety conscious individual who can demonstrate safe work practices with respect to people, equipment, and processes
  • Experience in stationary chippers, debarkers, and log material handling equipment will be considered an asset
  • Must understand the operation of the Integrator belt scale for the chipper
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, decision making and communication skills
  • Enjoy working with tools, equipment, instruments and machinery
  • Independent, self-driven/directed, and innovative individual
  • Mechanical aptitude with demonstrated problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Ability to work a revolving 28-day, shift work cycle in a physically demanding environment.
  • Proven ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Post-secondary education in heavy-duty equipment operator will be considered an asset
  • Previous Woodroom and/or chipping experience will be considered an asset
  • Experience with HMI system will be considered an asset
  • Experience operating heavy-duty equipment will be considered an asset

 

ERT Opportunity

Mercer Peace River operates an Emergency Response Team (ERT) which is open to all team members for consideration. This team assists our Safety Loss Control department in the event of emergencies and further enhances our operation’s health and safety. ERT members receive training in High Angle Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Hazmat Response, Industrial Firefighting and Standard First Aid. In addition to training, team members receive:
