Mercer Peace River has an exciting opportunity for three (3) motivated individuals to fill the full-time, temporary position of Maintenance Technician Apprentice  (Millwright, Machinist, or Pipefitter/Steamfitter). In this role, the Maintenance Apprentice Technician will be responsible for acquiring their Journeyperson certification while assisting MPR Maintenance with the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of mill equipment.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of machinery, mechanical, and pressure equipment
  • Read and understand technical documents including drawings, schematics, and service manuals
  • Assist with the development, improvement and adherence to safe work practices and procedures
  • Support department targets on safety, production and maintenance
  • Steady progression towards achieving the highest level of tech progression within the department
  • Work with multi-discipline teams to maximize the reliability of the equipment in your area
  • Awareness and adherence to MPR Policies and Procedures and Core Values
  • Participate in area safety and department meetings
  • Additional duties as required

Candidates should also have:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Strong technical, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting skills
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Proven safety-conscious individual with the ability to work in a physically demanding environment
  • Strong work ethic and drive for success
  • Background in preventative maintenance practices is considered an asset
  • Pulp mill and industrial maintenance experience preferred
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office, Google Suite of Applications and a computerized maintenance management system, specifically Avantis is considered an asset
