Mercer Peace River has an exciting opportunity for three (3) motivated individuals to fill the full-time, temporary position of Maintenance Technician Apprentice (Millwright, Machinist, or Pipefitter/Steamfitter). In this role, the Maintenance Apprentice Technician will be responsible for acquiring their Journeyperson certification while assisting MPR Maintenance with the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of mill equipment.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of machinery, mechanical, and pressure equipment
- Read and understand technical documents including drawings, schematics, and service manuals
- Assist with the development, improvement and adherence to safe work practices and procedures
- Support department targets on safety, production and maintenance
- Steady progression towards achieving the highest level of tech progression within the department
- Work with multi-discipline teams to maximize the reliability of the equipment in your area
- Awareness and adherence to MPR Policies and Procedures and Core Values
- Participate in area safety and department meetings
- Additional duties as required
Candidates should also have:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Strong technical, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting skills
- Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
- Proven safety-conscious individual with the ability to work in a physically demanding environment
- Strong work ethic and drive for success
- Background in preventative maintenance practices is considered an asset
- Pulp mill and industrial maintenance experience preferred
- Experience working with Microsoft Office, Google Suite of Applications and a computerized maintenance management system, specifically Avantis is considered an asset
