Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and supportive team player for the role of Health & Safety Trainer.

This is a full-time and permanent position working Monday-Thursday located at our mill site near Athabasca, Alberta. The successful candidate will receive a competitive annual salary including paid pension and matching RRSP program, 4-weeks of annual vacation, company paid dental and extended health benefits, with many additional employee incentives. The Health & Safety Trainer is responsible for ensuring that Alberta-Pacific is compliant with training and certification requirements by facilitating internal safety training as well as conducting training and development programs to improve individual and organizational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver third-party certified training courses including but not limited to:
    • Fall Protection.
    • Zoom Boom.
    • Elevated Work Platform.
    • Flagging, Skidsteer.
    • Overhead Crane.
  • Deliver internal training courses including but not limited to:
    • Knowledge of Confined Space.
    • Knowledge of First Break.
    • Safe Work Permit.
    • Hot Work Permit.
    • Hazard Analysis/Risk Assessment.
    • Knowledge & Use of Gas Detection Equipment.
    • Demonstrate Use of SCBA.
    • Hoist Reload Training.
    • Summer Student Training Program.
    • Tankwatch Training Program.
  • Perform Training Administration duties including but not limited to:
    • Order manuals and supplies needed for training.
    • Booking and set up of meeting/training rooms.
    • Advertising and course reminders.
    • Training attendance and record keeping.
    • Issuing of certificates.
    • Entering training records in TRACCESS.
    • Arranging for audits of train-the-trainer courses.
    • Maintenance of instructor qualifications.
    • Training completion audits, analysis, and reporting.
  • Perform Training Support duties including but not limited to:
    • Liaising with 3rd party training companies.
    • Arranging for external training, as needed.
    • Development of safety training and TRACCESS folders for all divisions.
    • Provide training assistance to the Emergency Response Team.
  • Provide coverage for Systems Administrator including:
    • Building TRACCESS folders for Pulp.
    • Updating competencies.
    • Entering training records in TRACCESS.
    • General TRACCESS support.

Qualifications

  • Able to travel, typical 5+% domestic.
  • Flexible work hours to meet business needs.
  • Valid drivers’ license (GDL removed) with an acceptable driving history.
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • 5+ years experience in a similar Health & Safety role
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Occupational Health & Safety certificate (asset)
  • Industrial experience (asset)
  • Experience in a manufacturing / industrial environment (asset)

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety training requirements.
